ACCREDITATIONS

The Royal Academy of Dance:

The RAD’s examinations are part of an internationally acknowledged system of rigorous assessments, drawing on the research and academic practices of twenty awarding organisations. These organisations promote progressive mastery in music, dance, drama and musical theatre.

The RAD is recognised to award qualifications on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF), by SQA Accreditation, a part of the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

 

Silver Swans Licensed Teacher:

The McPherson Dance Studio is a licensed Silver Swans provider.  The Royal Academy of Dance’s Silver Swans initiative has been developed for older learners so they, too, can take part in ballet classes. Whether you’re an experienced dancer, have briefly dabbled or are a complete novice, we welcome all older learners of any ability to try out Silver Swans classes.

 

Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing:

The ISTD is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards with the widest range of dance genres available. Since 1904 they have provided training for dance teachers and examiners, enabling teachers to enter their students for examinations, develop new techniques and spread the joy of dance. As a registered educational charity and membership association, the ISTD’s mission is to educate the public in the art of dancing in all its forms, to promote knowledge of dance, to provide up-to-date techniques for their members, and to maintain and improve teaching standards. They support their members through updated teaching syllabi and techniques, plus a wide variety of courses, summer schools and congresses.

 

BBO Dance:

bbodance is an international dance awarding organisation previously known as the British Ballet Organization (BBO). Established in 1930 as the British Ballet Organization (BBO), bbodance is justly proud of the heritage and tradition of its famous founders, Edouard Espinosa & Eve Kelland. 

 

Progressing Ballet Technique:

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students’ technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels. PBT helps teachers around the world prepare their students to receive the strength they need to achieve their personal best.

Progressing Contemporary Technique:

Progressing Contemporary Technique is an innovative program created by Adam Blanch in conjunction with Progressing Ballet Technique, devised as a series of functional exercises to help you explore and develop freedom of movement. To bring awareness to the importance of finding articulation through your body and allowing that discovery to give you that enhanced sense of mobility in contemporary dance.

PCT focuses on activating muscles groups through a process of utilising resistance and strength training. Our aim is to help you achieve a sense of moving with resistance, but never a tension in the body.

With spine articulation being a major component of contemporary dance, we strive to give you a solid foundation from which the spine can explore its fullest range of suppleness and flexibility through the co-ordination of breath and musicality.

Each exercise has been specifically developed to focus on the fundamental elements of contemporary dance. This including contraction articulation, variations of transfer of weight and giving weight, floor connection, resistance stretching/strengthening, compression and expansion, and so on. The structure of the program itself has been designed to progress in complexity, yet offering a wide range of modifications, to ensure dancers of all levels can participate, challenge themselves and benefit from this innovative program.

Alixa Flexibility Method:

A syllabus to encourage safe, smart stretching and guaranteed progression, The Alixa Flexibility syllabus has been carefully developed over 22 years with research consultation from experts in physiotherapy, sports medicine, massage therapy, rehabilitation, kinesiology and neurology.

 

Darcey Bussell’s DDMIX Dance Fitness:

DDMIX is a full body aerobic workout based on a wide range of different dance styles with easy to follow steps. Choreographed by Darcey Bussell and Nathan Clarke.  Genres include: Hand Jive, Hip Hop, Disco, Flamenco, Bollywood, Arabic, Irish, Line Dancing, Charleston, Tango, Scottish, Samba, Japanese, Greek, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.  All you need is a pair of trainers and lots of enthusiasm and we’ll provide the rest!
