The McPherson Dance Studio was established in 2016 by Principal, Lianne McPherson.
Lianne started dancing at the age of 2 years old and developed an everlasting love and passion for the art. As a young dancer, she excelled in her dance studies; participating in a number of amateur and professional productions, pantomimes, youth festivals and dance summer schools, achieving excellent results and a number of dance scholarships. Lianne trained at The Aberdeen Academy of Dance and thereafter at Scotland’s leading dance school, Danscentre in Aberdeen.
Whilst at university, Lianne gained valuable professional theatre experience working backstage at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen for productions such as Chicago, Fame, The King and I, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and Qdos Entertainment Pantomime Productions to name a few. She worked as a dresser in the wardrobe department, follow-spot operator in the lighting department and even as a hair and make-up assistant in the make-up and wigs department. Most recently, she chaperoned the UK Touring Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 2016.
Upon completing university, Lianne embarked on her Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies with the world renowned Royal Academy of Dance. During her studies, Lianne was trained, personally mentored by and worked for the current Teacher Training Manager of the Royal Ballet School in London and the developers of the RAD Pre-School Dance Curriculum receiving a wealth of knowledge and experience of the highest standard. She later completed her Diploma in Dance Teaching Studies with the Royal Academy of Dance and BA Honours Degree in Dance Education accredited by the University of Bath. She also has qualifications in Benesh Movement Notation and continues to invest in her professional development by regularly attending regular courses.
In 2016, The McPherson Dance Studio launched in Edinburgh specialising on the teaching of adult dancers. Later in 2018, The McPherson Dance Studio launched in Berwick-Upon-Tweed for students from the age of 3 to adults, taking over from the 25 year long established school Jane Keenan School of Dance. Since launching the school, Lianne has achieved outstanding results and 100% exam pass rate for students.
It is on this solid foundation that, Lianne hopes to inspire, educate and develop students of The McPherson Dance Studio in a fun and engaging environment, standing them in good stead for a successful career as dancers and all round performers in the performing arts industry. And, for those not looking for a career in dance, The McPherson Dance Studio offers a place for students to get fit, let their hair down, make new friends and share the love and passion for dance that is at the very core of The McPherson Dance Studio. The school prides itself on the highest quality of dance education and instruction and accommodates everyone from absolute beginner to advanced level who shares a passion for dance.
Lianne continues to work full time as a lawyer as well as running The McPherson Dance Studio.
