The McPherson Dance Studio was established in August 2016 by Principal, Lianne McPherson.
It is a school that prides itself on the highest quality of dance education and instruction. A school that accommodates everyone who shares that passion for dance whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced student.
Principal, Lianne McPherson started dancing at the age of 2 years old and developed an everlasting love and passion for the art. As a young dancer, Lianne excelled in her dance studies; participating in a number of amateur and professional productions, pantomimes, youth festivals and dance summer schools, achieving excellent results and even a dance summer school scholarship award.
Later, and whilst studying to become a lawyer, Lianne gained valuable experience working backstage at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen as a Dresser in the Wardrobe department, Follow-spot Operator in the Lighting Department and even working in the Make-Up department for a number of professional shows.
Upon completion of her law degree, Lianne decided to embark on her Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies with the world renowned Royal Academy of Dance. During her studies, Lianne was trained, personally mentored by and worked for the current Teacher Training Manager of the Royal Ballet School receiving a wealth of knowledge and experience of the highest standard.
Understanding the importance of Continuing Professional Development, Lianne has also successfully completed her Diploma in Dance Teaching Studies with the Royal Academy of Dance. She is currently further advancing her studies in the BA Honours Degree in Dance Education course and qualifications in Benesh Movement Notation. She also continues to attend regular Inspire Seminars run by The Royal Ballet School and other Continuing Professional Development courses. Lianne is also studying towards her Level 3 Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) and Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) in Modern Theatre and Tap with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance.
Since graduating from the Royal Academy of Dance, Lianne has gained further dance teaching experience working as a freelance dance teacher and has achieved outstanding results and 100% exam pass rate for students.
Lianne continues to work full time as a lawyer in a well-renowned law firm in Edinburgh as well as running The McPherson Dance Studio.
On this solid foundation, Lianne hopes to inspire, educate and develop students of The McPherson Dance Studio in a fun and engaging environment, standing them in good stead for a successful career as dancers and all round performers in the performing arts industry. And, for those not looking for a career in dance, The McPherson Dance Studio offers a place for students to get fit, let their hair down, make new friends and share the love and passion for dance that is at the very core of The McPherson Dance Studio.
